After the transplant: the history of regrowth, month by month
The transplant lasts one day; the result is built in a year. Know what happens month by month it's the best way to experience the wait without anxiety: the loss of transplanted hair a few weeks after surgery, for example, is normal — but if no one tells you, it seems like a disaster.
Here is the complete history that we share with each patient before returning to Italy, day by day and then month by month. The same one you will follow with the Italian team on WhatsApp.
Days 1–10: Scabs and healing
The first days are the most "visible" phase. In the recipient area, small crusts form around each graft; the donor area remains red for a few days. This is the normal healing process:
- Day 1-3: medication and check-up before returning, rest, no effort. Sleep semi-sitting with the cervical pillow from the after-care kit.
- Day 3-5: the crusts dry out. Start delicate washes with the shampoo from the kit, as we showed you in the clinic.
- Day 7-10: the scabs fall off on their own with washing. The appearance is presentable again: many patients return to work in this window.
Remember: never scratch or remove the crusts with your fingers. They fall off when washed, of course — touching them risks taking away the grafts.
Weeks 2–8: Shock loss — this is normal
Between the second and eighth week the hair transplanted they fall. It's called shock loss: the shaft falls, but the bulb remains under the skin, alive, and is preparing to produce a new hair. It seems like a step backwards; in reality it is proof that the cycle has started.
In this period the appearance returns similar to pre-surgery: it is the phase in which more patience is needed. The Italian team remains available on WhatsApp for this very reason: sending a photo and hearing "everything is normal" changes the mood of the week.
The golden rule of the first three months: don't look too much in the mirror. The bulb works under the skin, even when you don't see anything.
Months 3–6: The first new hair
Between the third and fourth month the first hair appears: fine, thin, sometimes a little curly. They grow irregularly — different areas leave at different times — and that's completely normal. At 6 months you are on average at 60-70% of the final result: the change becomes visible to others too.

Months 6–12: density and final result
From the second half of the year the hair thickens and the density increases month after month: the diameter of the shaft reaches its final one and the coverage becomes uniform. A 12 months the result is definitive: harmonious density, natural line, hair that can be cut, washed and styled like everyone else's — because it's yours.
- Months 7-9: progressive thickening, the donor area is now indistinguishable.
- Months 10-12: complete maturation. Dye, hairdryer and straightener are free again.
- Month 12: final check with comparative photos and closure of the warranty process.
Remember: on the vertex (clerical) maturation may take a few weeks longer than on the front line. If something doesn't convince you after 12 months, the written guarantee on regrowth is there for that.
